The News Blog
Welcome to mama’s blog! This is a subdivision of Puzzle Dragon X (PDX), brought to you by Reni, a moderator on PDX known as the mama. There’s exactly 1 admin on this site handling every thing (so excuse me if you spot errors).
What you’ll find here are translations to the news of Puzzle and Dragons (PAD) Japanese server, for both PAD and PAD Radar.
This blog has a twin on Discord.
This is the blog format of the PAD Japanese News Translations channel, located in the Puzzle Dragon X Discord server (PDX Discord, “JP_news_translated” channel. Server invite link: https://discord.gg/Bcz5p45). The channel is one of the few places PAD news of the Japanese version gets translated.
The Discord channel will have slightly faster updates since I often type on mobile, and it’s faster for me.
History of the Blog
How everything started… on Discord
It all began in May 2017. Back then, nothing was translated on Discord server. While fether and ancientmews are great on the PAD Subreddit (and are great buddies of mine), it does get pretty difficult to look for information on the site. Sometimes the Tweets aren’t even translation-worthy, so never gets posted. Naturally everyone was wondering what some random Japanese Tweets were, and I tried to help. After a while I got tired of repeating the same information, and began posting a brief translation to the relevant Tweets. As you see, it started as just small translations as descriptions.
Eventually I added more details to each message, and slowly grew into actual posts. I even bought subscriptions to Discord Nitro just for making better post. But as you see, the channel has both the actual tweet and my translations. I had a tough time since Tweets were constantly incoming and I was posting along with (or really, against) it. On bad days there would be Tweets posting in between my posts. Ugh, those 2 months were rough. Eventually it got so hard to read that that some members (mostly River) spoke up. We needed a channel on Discord solely for JP news translations, and it was a great move. This was how #jp_news_translated was born.
Channel was made, everything was good. People were happy. Naturally, the channel grew even bigger, from 10 readers to now… a hundred? And because the channel is gigantic, now it takes too long to search for one item. I got a bit fed up with searching and decided to build up this site, as a blog and also archive of events.
After trying a bunch of blog services (and not satisfied), I went ahead and bought a domain to start a whole website from scratch. All this happened on January 13, 2018, and look where we are now.
We’ll see how long I can last… Wish me luck!
What is Protic.site?
In short, I bought the domain and came up with this name. The name’s origin isn’t PAD influenced… it dates back to my science background. In chemistry terms, “protic” describes something that has a loosely-bound hydrogen (H+, or proton) that can be donated. It’s an adjective. Now if a specific site of a chemical can donate the hydrogen, that’s called the “protic site”.
Okay… but why Protic?
This traces back to a decade ago, when I named my MapleStory character Proton, because I wanted to be positive about everything (I also got electron and neutron to balance myself out). Years passed, I registered a Reddit account, couldn’t think of a good name, and went with the adjective Protic (since Proton was already taken). To continue this positive spirit, I went with protic.site!
Yay for chemistry puns!
Anyways, enjoy your stay. Hopefully you find the site useful!
