Dragonbounds & Dragon Callers 3rd Run Review
Dragonbounds and Dragon Callers was one of the best events to roll, due to the strong killer 5 star cards. This rerun added powerful new cards but also dilluted the pool, making it harder to roll the most useful gold eggs.

Suou
Suou is the first quad 7c card and deals 16x damage with 7 combos, but he also has no awakes besides 7c. He is able to use latent dragon killers and can actually hit harder than Kiri when hitting 7 combos. Suou’s active is a practical board change that unlocks and adds 1 combo at a reasonable 11 CD. Using him means sacificing typical utility awakenings for damage, and whether such a trade is worthwhile depends heavily on the team.
As a leader, Suou has 2.25x HP/RCV combined with a 43% shield on matching and , similar to the Sonias . It’s effectively 4x HP/RCV but only if you can match and , which also activates the full multiplier. As such, Suou can’t do things like damage control Sopdet then tank Goemon’s huge preemptive attack without shield. Compared to Sonias, Suou’s damage is noticably higher due to a higher attack multiplier and his own awakenings, but he’s bindable and must depend on subs for the usual awakes. He isn’t a terrible leader, just outclassed by Barbara & Julie who have similar tankiness but higher multiplier, easier stalling, unbindability, more movetime, and no need for double SBR sub.
Triple VDP awakenings means Suou deals 15.625x damage on the 3×3 match. Suou’s balanced typing allows him to take killers of any typing for even more damage, and triple SB helps with having skills up on time. He’s very powerful but also excessive to some degree, since leader multipliers have power creeped the point that relatively weaker VDP cards will do the job just fine.
Suou has a HP conditional shield similar to Edward but he lacks his own self heal active and must rely on subs like Jhoira and Eren (who also covers SBR). Since he only needs 6c and 2 color match, Suou doesn’t really need 7×6 for activation; however, a 7×6 pairing makes spawns with both damage void and high combo shields like Grato and Ena significantly easier.
Which Suou should I make?
Ult Suou is an amazing VDP card and suited for Arena 4 as a leader. Base Suou deals high damage as a sub, but he’s hard to fit on teams due to the complete lack of utility awakenings.
Rocher
Rocher’s awakenings are similar to Scheat when she was first released, but Rocher also has a massive attack stat in addition to her TPAs. She can deal high damage but doesn’t do much else and even then, strong killer subs will hit harder whenever the spawn is on type.
Color absorb void is convenient but only relevant against a few spawns. Thankfully, Rocher’s active also provides useful orb change and hazard clearing.
Her leaderskill has a decent multiplier, but requires 6 and 3 for full activation. Stalling is possible as the shield is tied to and match, but it’s still difficult to fully activate without using an active.
As a sub, Rocher offers FUA and a good offense through triple HP ≤ 50 attack boost. She fits nicely on leaders with under HP conditions like Raizer , but she’s sadly off type for DMeta .
Rocher has a good multiplier and a 75% shield tied only to matching 8 combos, which grants her excellent tankiness. On the other hand she cannot control damage well, since not activating her shield can be fatal. A 6×5 board may not always have 8 combos either, so a 7×6 pairing or leader swap is recommended. Her subpool is limited to green and dark, but there’s a decent amount of choices available especially with FUA already covered by Rocher herself. Lastly, her lack of SBR must compensated through sub choices, badge, or coop.
Which Rocher should I make?
Ult Rocher is an interesting combo lead and decent FUA sub. Base Rocher is powerful but overly specialized.
Valeria
Valeria has the most amount of skill boosts of any card, beating out Whaledor . Just like skill boost assists , Valeria is a largely luxury option as it’s generally easy to get enough skill boosts in coop. While her board refresh and RCV buff active is useful, she has no relevant awakes beyond skill boosts so her sub value in non-farming teams is low.
Her leader skill has time extend, decent damage, and a damage reduction shield tied to matching colors, but the red/light attribute restriction limits sub options and there are leaders with similar activation and tankiness but better damage and inate unbindability. The main reason to lead with Valeria is to get 12 skill boosts just from your leaders, allowing long CD actives such as damage absorb void to charge on time in short solo or 3p mode dungeons.
As a sub ult Valeria acts as a HP stick, but she still lacks any damage awakenings.
While Valeria’s leader skill does not provide any HP multiplier or shield, she’s more tanky than she seems at first glance thanks to team HP awakenings. Her damage relatively high for a 4 color rainbow lead and the high RCV is useful for ignoring poisons, but she’s ultimately a glass cannon.
Which Valeria should I make?
Base Valeria is luxury whaledor and ult Valeria is almost a decent lead. If you care about farming then base Valeria is amazing, but neither form is that useful otherwise.

Alpha
Those offensive awakenings backed by a high attack makes Alpha an interesting option for various match 5 leads . The active is a board and combo+ at the same cooldown as Inahime , but it is +1 combo for 2 turns instead of +2 combo for 1 turn. The effect is slightly weaker, but still useful.
Alpha’s leader skill multiplier is 4/144/1 and activates on matching 2 colors, similar to a couple other leads . However he is more restricted in that a sub must be red to deal damage but also green to get HP. There are some nice options for red and green subs and it’s acceptable to run one or two subs that red but not green, but the restriction still significantly limits his lead potential.
Omega
Omega is the first triple multiboost card but her base attack is low enough that there are farmable cards with more effective attack in coop. However, she has the highest possible HP and RCV in the game when in coop mode, making her an effective stat stick for typical teams. Her non multiboost awakenings are not all that notable, as such she’s not much of a sub in solo.
Her leader skill is easy to use and combo based but lacking in defense and restricted by needing subs of both red and green attributes much like Alpha.
Her active is the most interesting aspect as it is a gemstone style burst based on the ever important combo enhance. Carat is still much better for swipe teams, but Omega can be better on standard teams.
Leito
Lieto’s team RCV may seem useful for various high HP low RCV teams, but he’s completely outclassed by Eir who is farmable, deals more damage, and clears more turns of awoken binds through her active.
His leader skill isn’t particularly good either. While 2 out of 3 color match is easier to fufill than a strict 2 color match, his shield and half of his damage is tied to a 80% HP conditional which hinders his surviability.

Vigo
Viggo has some killers, but there are better killer subs for both physical and healer plus Weapon 1 assist evos that grant those killers. The active skill voids defense and clears poisons, but it breaks hearts too and the cooldown is long.
For new players, Viggo can be paired with friend rainbow leads but he’s easily replaced in the long run. He’s not that notable as a sub or a lead in general.

Chuan
[4811] Chuan
煥発の工龍契士・チュアン
Dragon / Attacker
Active Skill: Reduce HP by 20%, inflict 50x Dark ATK to 1 enemy. Change top-most row to orbs. (4 max CD)
Leader Skill: [No skyfall combos/4 seconds orb movement] 2x ATK for Dark attribute. ATK increase when matching 3+ combos, up to 20x ATK.
Chuan is a reward from the DBDC OSC, see here for more details.
Combo: | ≤ 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | ≥ 9 |
Multiplier: | 4x | 16x | 100x | 256x | 484x | 784x | 1156x | 1600x |
Chuan’s leader skill is combo based and scales both really fast and really high, with the catch of no skyfall and fixed 4s movetime. She’s certainly an unique and fun leader, but there’s no defensive component to her at all and her awakenings don’t synergize with her playstyle very well.
Her active is a 4cd dark row maker that also does a 20% suicide and small nuke. It’s not inheritable and Chuan’s base attack isn’t that high, but she may be useful as a sub for dark row farming since she provides plenty of row enhances and a recyclable base active.
Verdict
Should I roll?
While the 5 star killer cards are as strong as ever, the pool of rolls have been diluted by these new but mediocre additions. If you are in need of those killer subs then I would still roll, but good luck.
For players who have obtained the enough of the 5 star cards from previous runs, there isn’t much value remaining. Roll at your discretion, but check the rates and consider your chances at getting something useful first.
Should I trade?
Trading for Ideal may sound appealing, but the price tag is ridiculously high. If you have 5 useless seasonal 8 stars and/or Great Witches lying around then feel free, but having enough fodder probably requires more luck/whaleness than rolling the 7 star you want from the machine.
Comments from Other Authors
[speech name=Reni]As chu already said, DBDC is still a really good machine to roll in, especially for those who are still missing the amazingly useful 5-star cards. Some even reroll their account when this event is live, since you get a free roll instantly. Though with these rates, good luck on rerolling for your desired starting rolls…
Unfortunately, there is no Gachadra event this time (on JP) so that means fewer rolls than previous times… Nonetheless, good machine to roll in. Good luck![/speech]
