R.I.P., European Server of PAD.

Just posted about an hour ago is the sad news – The EU version of PAD, which started on October 16, 2013, will be shutting down on December 10th, 2018.

As a friend of many EU players, I do feel sad to see the server go. Here’s my final tribute to the server.

Thank you, EU server.

I liked EU server a lot, especially as a North American (NA) player who wants fastest news. Because of time zones, EU news always came earlier than NA news, and they’re identical news since the two servers are essentially sister servers (except one lacks an Android version). I also liked the staff working behind EU server, especially for their responsiveness on Facebook.

Sadly I have never played EU server while it was at its prime, but through various platforms I met plenty of wonderful and skilled EU players. To name a few, Symplecto, Tanveer, A44, Howard, June, Army, Ricardo, Wesley. You, along with many EU players, showed me how great the small EU PAD community was. Visiting the EU server was like a mini Europe trips, and it was rewarding.

Personally I never understood why EU version never had an Android version. It always puzzled me why they have limited the game to iOS only, when Android dominates the market even in Europe. Perhaps the problem is the cost to maintain the app? Or because GungHo Japan misunderstood the European market?

To end, one of the big push for me to run the blog and the Discord channel on PDX Discord Server is to help transitioning EU players to the JP server. I know many EU players have thanked me over the past 10 months, and here I’d like to thank the EU players for making all this possible and worthwhile.

Keep being awesome, and I will see you guys on NA/JP servers.
