New Evolution Stones: How To’s

During GungHo-Fest 2018 on 5/27, GungHo introduced a new mechanic and evolution material that shifted everything we knew and were accustomed to about evolving…

NA received this update on 7/11, and GHNA decided to call them Gems instead of Rare Stones…

Introducing Evolution Stones

What Are Evolution Stones*?

Evolution Stones are a new evolution material we can obtain by trading in specific cards. They have completely replaced normal monsters in the evolution process.

Here, Ney used to require the following to Evolve into her b/d form:

Now, it’s changed to this:

Unlike the monsters we had to use to evolve before, these materials are stackable. Essentially GungHo gave us more free box space and made it so it’s less of a hassle to evolve cards.

How do they work?

First, a card will need to be exchanged for the Evolution Stone which you desire. Below we see me exchanging Volsung for a Volsung Unique Evolution Stone…

First, you have to go into the Monster Exchange, and select the Rare Evolution tab. There, scroll down to the monster in which you want to make an Evolution Stone out of. Note you only need 1 of the specified card to create an Evolution Stone.

After trading, Volsung has become an evolution material. Note this process is permanent; so those of you who sometimes use these monsters be careful.

Once done, the monster will now be sorted and stackable inside your Evolution Material Tab in your monster box.

Before, you had to manually select the monster to use in evolving. Now, after converting your evolution monsters into Evolution Stones, the process is automatically done since they’re now evolution. Here, Volsung is now able to be used in Ney’s Evolution process.

This new mechanic will make convoluted evolutions a lot less of a pain in the neck. I’m looking at you, Cotton…

Types of Evolution Stones

You’ve seen me use the terms “Large Evolution Stone” and “Unique Evolution Stone”. That’s because they come in four flavors, and in all 5 elements; Small, Medium, Large, and Unique. All trades require 1 monster each for all sizes!

Unique Evolution Stones still require you go out and obtain the specific card it requests in order to obtain it.

NOTE: Do not trade in Descended’s that have an Ultimate for medium or large Stones, since they can be Uniques. Trade in other things! I have noted which cards can become both Normal or Unique Stones, it’s generally better to save those cards for thier Unique versions, and acquire the Normal Stones through other means.

Where Unique Evolution Stones do require a specific card to obtain and are under the “Rare Evolution” Tab in the exchange (such as Volsung as demonstrated above), the other three sizes can be obtained by trading different monsters, and under the normal Evolution Tab. All Cards shown require that specific stage of evolution, and will not accept anything else.

Also please take note, that all Normal Evolution Stones are tradable, however some Unique Stones are not, their MP value is dependent on the base card used, such as Canopus.

Still wondering what the best ways of farming a certain stone are, or which descended bosses are safe to sell? Well, thanks to Reddit user u/muguthemangler, the work has already been done for us!
