[NA Exclusive] Power Rangers Collab – Full Details!

10/28 (Mon) 12:00am - 11/10 (Sun) 11:59pm PST

The super hyped Power Rangers collab is here!! Let’s see if it’s vastly improved from Voltron collab, the other NA exclusive! Is it time to… Roll Roll Power Rangers (???)!!

Power Rangers

Power Rangers is a long running series of shows adapted from the Japanese franchise of Super Sentai and catered to a Western audience. The current collab focuses on the first iteration, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, where an intergalactic wizard who’s lived for thousands of years kidnaps recruits 5 teenagers with attitude to fight the forces of evil. The collab also features a few units from the second iteration, Power Rangers Zeo , as well as new units from the comic universe. Go roll because this is an NA exclusive.

That One Guy (who wrote the introduction) also made this. This lovely artwork was actually made years ago when the knights came out!!

Fun fact: The original version shows up in Google Image Search when you look for “Puzzle and Dragons wallpaper”…

27 Replies to “[NA Exclusive] Power Rangers Collab – Full Details!”

  1. Zordon is a REM card, not the dungeon boss. In fact, it does not look like the dungeon even has any drops that are not the medals for the exchange.

It is upsetting that this is just an “upgraded” reskin of Yokai-Watch, with some inspiration taken from Kamen Rider, and the cost heavily ramped up. I guess it is an upgrade from Voltron, but even more disappointing.

    1. Hmm, accidentally threw him into dungeon since the IDs aren’t actually in order for the entire machine.

Personally I don’t see it as anywhere close to upsetting, if it’s based off Kamen Rider it’s even worse. Let’s see how it looks with full details before thorough analysis though!

For a long-waited NA exclusive, it could end up being much much worse, so I’ll take whatever comes, and hope next one will be even better. (Maybe a rerun too)

      1. I guess by cost I should have specified that I was talking about it being a ten stone REM instead of five stones, with the cards, from what we have seen so far, taking aspects from a five stone REM and collab farmables, and buffing them ever so slightly. To me it just feels like being sold something for double the price just because you can only get it from the one source, and as such it is either you take it or do not get it. Considering the way gacha games are, it just does not feel like these cards are significant enough to justify the REM costing that much more in order to get our Yokai-Watch “equivalent”. It feels like we got Yokai-Watch 1.5 at two times the cost. The fact that Yokai-Watch offered such high value while surprisingly being only five stones definitely affected its value overall. If it was six stones I would not mind the additional cost at all, and you can even convince me that it is worth seven stones, but I just cannot see eight stones.

It is also worth considering that since it is a ten stone REM that means the seven stars are potentially only at 2% rates instead of 2.5%. Even though that might only seem like a small difference, that does not mean that impact of it is significant enough. Since we obviously do not know the rates yet though, it could be higher, comparable to an SGF over regular Godfests. If the sevens stars each had a 3%, or hopefully although unlikely 4%, rate instead, then I can understand the cost a whole lot better.

On a side, less important, note, there was no mention of bundles, or an orb skin strangely enough, in the announcements. While bundles are not something that affect most players, I feel that it still something that is effected by the way the REM is priced to make it worthwhile taking notice, for those who do purchase bundles, or at least those who are not whales who do purchase bundles. Since the main focus of the bundle is the added card you get with the stones, the fact that the top rarity, from what we know, is mostly the same as cards from five or six stone REMs, you would have to pay more to get something that was sold for less elsewhere. Even the orb skin, if there is one, is affected by the increase. Of course, if the prices, and the stones that come with the bundles, are not the same as other ten stone REMs, then the point is mute.

I will hope that the things we have not seen yet end up being the missing piece to justify what we have. Even with all of the collabs good points, at the moment I feel that it does get overshadowed by the circumstances surrounding the content of the collab, putting aside the farmables being less impressive with the good parts of Yokai-Watch’s farambles going to the REM cards instead. This collab just comes off as a poor imitation of Yokai-Watch, lacking quite a few of the aspects that made it so good.

        1. Personally I wouldn’t say that until full details. Fun fact, NA is the only region really complaining about it…

          1. I mean I only complain because I’m made to feel like I’m playing on Jp pads deformed brother who is kept locked up in the basement and just get scraps when everyone else is done eating. I see what you’re trying to say Reni that it’s good we got something to call our own but we are human after all and jealousy is in our nature. You make it so easy for us to see what we will never get! It’s all your fault! Jk thank you for your hard work <3.

          2. It’s easy for JP not to complain because they have access to everything. On the surface they are nice cards, but we could desperately use some of these far more relevant FUA leads like Coco or Haohmaru. The Power Rangers cards would be very nice to have, but they don’t move us forward. When JP already has those leads it’s easy to say, oh cool, Power Rangers looks nice, but when we lack the more meta-relevant leads, it’s hard not to be disappointed and left wishing they were something else.

    1. Almost every card is either the same as a Yokai-Watch card, but with a few differences that can be important or not for better or worse, or are a combination of several cards from Yokai-Watch, including some aspects from the farmables, with the same case as those that fall into the afformentioned group.

  2. It’s hard to not compare this to Fujimi Fantasia Bunko Legend Collab or Samurai Spirits and feel completely and utterly insulted and betrayed. If you’re going to reskin and charge 2x for something pick something that will push the game further. Something that makes you go “wow” when you roll it… nothing in this is wow so far… not even close…

  3. I mean, what everyone said is right–this collab is a bit of a let down, and its price is much too high to boot. But you shouldn’t just look for meta leaders or what we haven’t gotten. It’s true that none of the monsters in the collab are great, top tier leaders, but I can see many uses as great subs or assists. Yes, JP got them much earlier and have many more cards that are much better, but I guess the fact that we get it at all is the good part.
Apart from that, I think NA will get Samurai Spirits? I’m pretty sure we won’t get Fujima, but I thought Samurai had a decently high chance to come to NA?

    1. I think the biggest thing is it’s priced way too high and assuming the rates are similar to other 10 stone rems then you’re going to hurt yourself trying to get what you want. I can accept a colab just for the sake of it being a colab, I rolled a lot in SAO because I like SAO. But a lackluster colab that’s overpriced? That’s not right…..

  4. NA PAD Players complain too much about keeping up with Japan when you should realize that this game is based in ‘JAPAN’ not in America FFS!!

All you NA Players do is complain and complain and complain which none of you realize that this is Gung-ho trying to cater towards the NA players over there just to be fair.

Yes I know that the 10 stone is steep but it’s a collab after all. How do Japan players feel when you pull on a collab just to get dupes from a 5, 6, 7, or 10 stone collab; not very good I can vouch to say that with confidence.

From what I can remember, Voltron was a shill movement to promote the Netflix series that don’t even have new episodes at this point. At least the Power Rangers collab is showing interests to a franchise that is beloved by American people who enjoys it.

Finally, be grateful that Gungho is trying to do something for the NA players. They could of have been done with the Voltron collab but they are giving it another chance. If this falls through and not be a success then Gung-ho will learn not to do another favor for NA ever again. Reason, NA can’t be grateful for what they receive by Gung-ho!

    1. If I can like this comment more than once, I would. This completely describes how I feel. It gotta start somewhere. Many in HK/TW and even JP server would love to roll in this machine, with those cards!

Just my two cents on the matter: At this point NA players are shooting themselves in the foot for a rerun, importing other collabs to NA server, or future exclusive collabs. If they don’t want to roll in the collab, just say they aren’t rolling and move on.

(I personally am rolling 2 packs on this, minimum. I know nothing about Power Rangers but I see the value in the collab.)

    2. I agree with most of this except that you consider it a “favor”. GH is a business trying to make money. This is how they chose to do it. It’s not a favor.

Collabs don’t come to NA because GH is trying to hold out. They don’t come because of licensing issues. If GH could bring them to NA and still make money they would. That’s all there is to it.

Is it frustrating at times as a NA player? Sure. But let’s not take it personally that GH is out to get us. They’re a business trying to make money. That’s their job.

      1. and the thing is that money speaks, so if they see that this doesnt make money they are less inclined to give us more collabs/NA exclusive collabs.

    3. If we don’t complain, things won’t get better. We only complain because we care, though we should give credit where credit is due. Great work on getting this collab through! Not so great work on charging 10 stones for the quality/rates of the cards.

      1. Things won’t get better, because if this collab underperforms, i imagine they won’t bother trying to give us an NA exclusive collab again, especially once the people involved in making this collab happen see how much you guys are complaining about their work.

        1. LOL. This server is still alive because we pay to keep it running. We’re entitled to an opinion, positive or negative. If they are more concerned with their feelings being hurt than generating revenue, it’s time for new hires. We complained about Voltron, things got a little better with PR. It’s a step in the right direction. This game runs off of $$$, not pats on the back for art work and effort. If they want to keep the server alive and as a (small) source of revenue for the company, they will listen to our complaints. Or, they can pout about us not jumping for joy over it, quit making interesting content, and let the server die off like EU.

    4. Who cares where the game is based? Since the game was released they have established a model of:
      -Release things in JP
-Release MOST of those things a few months later in NA.

We have accepted this as the game model and accept that we won’t always get everything. Now they have introduced NA “exclusives”, aka reskins, to give us things that we haven’t had access to for copyright reasons or whatever the reasons may be.

So by making an NA exclusive, they have the ability to give us ANY cards they want. What they have done though is CHOSEN to give us a reskin of an outdated collab, with slight improvements to it, at double the cost of a roll.

We’re grateful for extra content coming to NA that we wouldn’t normally get, but why should we be overly excited for this? People that roll away all their stones or spend big money for the art and because they enjoy the franchise are in the minority. Most roll for value and this rem has very little at a cost of 10 stones and a single meta-relevant lead that is already on it’s way out.

The biggest turn off goes back to the game model. We MIGHT get some of the newer meta leads (that they could have used this collab for but chose not to) in the near future, so spending more than few stones on this REM MIGHT come back to bite us in the a**. It is a blessing and a curse to know what exists and that we might never see it.

Also, it is pretty insulting for JP players to tell us to stop complaining from their ivory tower, because if the shoe was on the other foot, you would be complaining as much, if not more. We’ve seen it plenty of times…

  5. Wow this is the longest comments I’ve ever seen on any Reni page lolol. Anyway does anyone find it odd Lord Zeds equip is Green?? wth?? with two dark evos, I don’t understand. Something new I guess. Ever been any other examples of something changing its color when going to equip form? Ha Reni read’s ppls comments a lot but I doubt even she’s checking through this page. Metal Gear Solid 2 probably had less of a script.

  6. Japan gets tons of free stones and other stuff that NA never gets and then they add insult to injury by giving us a dated, overpriced collab that will probably never see the light of day again. They just announced the NA 7th anniversary and there is absolutely nothing worthwhile in it. No 100 stones, no free cards, no nothing. It’s an insult and I’m tired of it.

    1. We cannot say that there was “No 100, no free cards, no nothing” yet since the actual date of the seventh anniversary is not until November 8th. Since there is still time for them to do something, and possible even along with an anniversary stream, I would certainly not complain about this yet. After that point, if there is still nothing, then by all means complain. Until then, however, you are just working off of the assumption that nothing else is going to be done, and that is yet to be proven.

  7. I was willing to reconsider my opinion if the rates of the seven stars justified the cost, but it is just the same rate distribution as Yokai-Watch. The only difference is that there is no orb skin in Power Rangers so the remaining 87.5% non-top rarity rates are spread across seven cards instead of six and one slightly lower orb skin, making each six star have slightly lower rates except for the “orb skin” which is much higher. This honestly feels like it just has enough value to be a seven stones at most, considering it is a slightly better Yokai-Watch, and the added benefit of being able to swap between evolutions with the only downside being level limit breakthrough does not carry into the assist evolution. The added “extra” of everything being fully awoken probably does add on to the cost, but it does not justify the jump from seven stones to ten stones. Considering that all but a few cards can have all of their stats, awakenings, actives, leader skills, and super awakening traces back to cards from Yokai-Watch with buffs, it just pushes the REM into a state of being six or seven stones. Even aspects of most of the farmables are used to make up what we got. It is even more insulting when we see that JP’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko Legend is a seven stone collab with a similar value on the top rarities, but what feels like less value on the lower rarities. However, the top rarities, with the sole exception of the eight star for obvious reasons, has a bump up in rates. Seeing as our slightly better remix, as reskin does not apply to all of the cards as some are mashups of several Yokai-Watch cards, of a five stone collab has its priced doubles, but its rates left the same. I know every collab is not fantastic, and that collabs of the same cost do not always have the same value, but when we get a collab in which every card draws the majority of its content from all the cards, not just REM, of a five stone collab, and improves upon it only a little bit, and the improvements are not even across the board. There are even a few cards that are downgraded, and do not even receive significant enough buffs to outweigh it. Then there are also cards that ended up in the REM that are slightly better versions of farmable cards, or cards that take slightly adjusted aspects of farmable cards. It just does not manage to justify its ten stone cost, and takes away some of the good parts about Yokai-Watch, being a low cost REM with high quality cards and having good farmables.

The next point to talk about is the monster exchange. Since the seven stars are so incredibly similar to Yokai-Watches six stars, or a combination of farmables and five, with buffs, for them to require five seven star GFEs, seven star special REMs, or eight star seasonals, is ridiculous. They are definitely worth five GFEs, and rarely are exchanges of this cost actually worthwhile if not based on a personal preference, but given the context of the cards, it is certainly not justifiable.

It is also curious as to why this is the only collab in a long while not to have any bundles whatsoever. Even seasonals and specials REMs have been getting more bundles, but for some reason this one does not have even simple free roll plus stones proportional to the REM cost bundle. It is strange to think about why there would not be even the simplest of the bundles, which has been around for at least over a year and half, since I cannot remember if Valentine’s was the first one. It could be that Gungho realizes that the seven stars are not improved enough from Yokai-Watch’s six stars to have a higher priced guaranteed top rarity bundle, maybe they wanted to make it so players would have to spend more to have a chance at the cards they want once they no longer have free stones. Regardless of the reason, we do not know what Gungho was thinking in this regard. What is even more unusual is the fact that there is no orb skin for a collab that is perfect for one. The only reason there seems to be for that is the lack of bundles, which there would need to be if there was an orb skin based on the precedent for every collab and seasonal orb skin. We do not know why Gungho decided to handle it this way, it is probably not all that important to most people, but it is at least strange, and makes one wonder “Why?”.

The take away from this is that it is not the content people are upset with, it is the context. The content of the collab is great. Almost all of the REM cards are good, with varying degrees of dupes being useful, it is an NA exclusive collab, and it has a source material that many people probably have some connection to. If you know nothing about what Yokai-Watch collab was like, then there do not seem to be any problems with this collab. However, once it is put into the context of Yokai-Watch’s content, it becomes drastically less satisfying. It is not artist, or the people who worked for the collab to happen that anyone has a problem with, but rather the people who decided what the cards in the collabs would have, what was obtainable from where, the cost of the REM, and the rates of said REM, that people are upset with. To phrase it another way, if they had just given us Yokai-Watch, or even made Power Rangers a complete reskin of Yokai-Watch, there would be significantly less complaints. It is about the way they handled it in implementation that resulted in so many people rightfully complaining. What we were expecting was an NA exclusive collab, but what we got was a remix of a collab from JP. While every one of the cards does not have a card exactly like it, every one of the cards is comprised almost entirely of aspects from Yokai-Watch cards with slight variations to make them “new”. If it was just that then I still do not think people would be as upset. It would still be us getting the cards from Yokai-Watch, sure it would not be something fully exclusive to NA like we would hope for in it being called an NA exclusive collab, but it is still something. If that were all it was, people would have less grounds on which to complain. Without a doubt there would still be people complaining, but the amount, and degree to which they are complaining, would be different. What NA did get was a slightly buffed, in some areas, version of what JP had, with a little twist here and there, the best of the farmables no longer being farmable, with slightly buffed farmables ending up in the REM, and worst of all, the REM’s cost not being increased by a stone or two to compensate, but doubled. I know we are NA and that we do not get everything that JP does, that Gungho is based in Japan, that not everything JP gets is necessarily possible to get in NA, that JP has been around longer, and that we get things on a delay, which has been getting shorter and almost instantaneous for some things. I understand all of that, but it does not mean that we should settle for less, and be thankful for getting something so severely changed for the worse. Telling people to just take what is given to them, and be thankful for what they have is well and good given the context. It is almost Novemeber and Thanksgiving is coming up for many of us. It is a time when we are thankful for what we have been fortunate to obtain. However, nowhere in there does it say about desiring for more, or better treatment. I am not saying that Gungho should be giving us five hundred stones on a monthly basis, that everyone should be given the opportunity to pick any one card in the game to get, every stream we should expect to be getting a minimum of fifty stones, or anything like that. I am merely asking that we get treated the same way that JP does. That if we are going to have a collab that is going to be exclusive to us that it will be at least somewhat valuable, and unique. Or if we are going to get an altered version of one, that it still keeps the same qualities that made it good, or at least is clearly justifiable as to why things were changed. History shows that people who have less do not just accept the circumstances forever, eventually they are going to demand that they receive better, or work harder for it. Since we cannot work harder, we only have one option, and that is to demand better, more equal, treatment. The treatment that NA PAD gets compared to that of other games’ non-JP secondary servers is the worse that I have seen. Any global, or in some cases EU, exclusive content that other games have, is actually exclusive. They receive the same respect, and quality of content that JP does, and are treated on the same terms. Sure this is a mobile game, it is not the most important thing in life, but we want to spend time playing the game we enjoy, and without the players the game would have no purpose. We have a right to our opinion, and a right to ask for better, within reason. The directive that Gungho NA was taking with this one was appreciated, and we hope to see more of that in the future. The problem lies in the execution. The direction which this shows Gungho NA going is not one people are happy with. Not complaining about it, saying it is not satisfactory for its players, is something that will only result in more of the same situation. Nothing is done right the first time, and it often takes a bit of testing to get things right. If you are not prepared to fail, you can never succeed. If us complaining was enough to stop them from doing anything like this again, then that means that we will thankfully not get something done poorly again, or that Gungho NA does not care enough about its players. There is a difference between being ungrateful, and unsatisfied. I am not satisfied with what we got, but I am grateful for the effort that was put in to getting the collab to happen and the art. I am also grateful that we are getting the cards from Yokai-Watch, but I am not satisfied with how they are being distributed.

It is not even too late for Gungho to fix the main issue that people are having with the collab, the REMs cost being too high for what is in it. There are several ways in which they can easily fix it. The first of which is to buff all the cards significantly enough, since it is too late to make them entirely different from Yokai-Watch. Since there are cards that are not different from their Yokai-Watch counter parts at all in at least one department, and quite a few that the changes were not significant enough to justify the increase in cost, it would be simple enough to make the difference in value between the two clearly different. At the moment most of the value looks relatively the same, and that which is not relatively the same does not feel too far off from being at that point. There is one unique leader skill, and one card that has awakenings in all three of its forms that are unique, or at least more easily debatable that it is unique in the case of one of its forms. While there is another card with its evolutions which despite its Yokai-Watch roots being quite clear, it gets enough to make it feel more like its own card across its three forms. The second option is to simply lower the cost of the REM, and compensate everyone stones equal to the difference multiplied by the number of rolls they did. This one would probably be the simplest to do, and would make the main problem that people are having mute. The REM is definitely more than a five stone, but less than a ten stone. While I do not think it quite reaches nine or eight, I want to say you can argue that it is more than six. As such, I think seven would be an appropriate cost that is fair enough. The last, and most difficult option, would be to increase the rates on the seven stars to at least 3% or 3.5%. While it is not much, it does give it an extra push towards justifying the value of the REM. The only problem is that there is no good way to compensate players who already rolled with the old rates. Would refunding part of the stones spent be enough, and if so how much would need to be refunded? Would players receive a guaranteed seven star pull, if so how many rolls would that require that would be fair, would there be more rolls for those who rolled enough, and would doing only one roll not qualify someone? It is too difficult to use this fix at this point in my opinion, as there does not seem to be a good way to decide on the compensation. Even something like giving everyone who did at least one roll a seven star roll, and giving another seven star roll for somewhere between every five to eight rolls, including the free rolls if they are not redistributed as just additional regular free rolls. Even then, although the players would probably be satisfied, at least enough I would imagine, it seems like Gungho loses out too much on it. A fourth, and probably unlikely, fix would be to make it so every roll that used magic stones gave a special medal in the mail. With enough, at most ten, medals one could then trade for a seven star of their choosing. The medals could also be used to trade for a different medal, if they do not want to make the first medal tradable in the already existing exchange for the seven stars. In that case you can make this new medal tradable for two of the medals you get from rolling, and have that be tradable for the seven stars. It would be pretty strange to see this type of mechanic in PAD like this, but everything is strange until it is actually done. PAD has the ability to do this already, and I see no reason why that does not justify the cost. I am sure that there will still be people complaining, because there always are at least some, but I feel that it could satisfy most of them.

Regardless of what happens with Power Rangers collab, even if Gungho does not try to fix it in anyway, and even if it does fail because of the decisions they made with it, I hope they use it as a motive to do better next time. I am sure there was quite a bit of work put into getting this collab to us with the llicensing, art, and music alone, and we do not know how much freedom Gungho NA gets with the NA exclusive collabs card content wise. I know that Yokai-Watch was a highly requested collab by NA after its JP release, and that Gungho might have thought that NA would love to have a slightly different Yokai-Watch, and I am sure many of us can agree that they would not be wrong. It mainly feel apart in some of the seemingly small areas, that had a large impact on how it was received. Even if it is too late to change the past, they can still use to learn how they can do better in the future. While I am against Gungho on parts of this collab, I am still hoping that my belief that they were trying to do something good for NA, and made a wrong decision here and there, is not wrong. Hopefully things can improve from here on out, and we will have many more years of PAD to come.
