About Amaterasu: I’m not an expert in Japanese history, mythology, or storytelling – Please correct me if I’m wrong on this.

In Japanese mythology, Amaterasu was upset at Susano (there’s some rivalry there between the siblings), and hid in the heavenly rock cave. Since Amaterasu herself is the sun, the world becomes pitch dark, and no gods could convince her to come out of the cave.

The Goddess of Happiness, Ame No Uzume, danced and tricked Amaterasu to come out, which restored light to the world. (and gods subsequently closed off the cave so that she can’t get back in, lol)

So I guess we know what Amaterasu was doing in the cave… And this is probably why Ame no Uzume is in the art too. [/speech]

Amaterasu

• You can also see little figurines of the Kotoamatsukami (Amenominakanushi and friends) in the background of the art, as well as the sword Kusanagi in a storage bin and the sacred mirror in a corner!
• There apparently is debate on how Ame no Uzume got Amaterasu to exit the cave, most believed that she danced naked.

Orochi

• The reason why Kushinadahime (who happens to be Susano’s wife) is being held by Orochi (who happens to be killed by Susano) is probably because of some shonen-style delinquent rivalry between Orochi and Susano. (That actually makes sense seeing how they are in PAD Academy!)
• Kushinadahime was actually suppose to be a sacrifice to Orochi.
