[NA Exclusive] Stamina regeneration by watching a video… I mean advertisement

Yet another NA exclusive feature. Pretty generous one too!

Edit: Feature now available on Japan version too, since Version 19.0 update!

About the stamina regeneration

This is an North America server exclusive feature. Not even Korea, Hong Kong/Taiwan, or Japan server has this feature!

Shop –> Restore Stamina –> Click “Watch” to watch an ad.

  • One ad refills your entire stamina bar, even comes with overflow.
  • You can watch 1 video per 24 hours, resets every day at 4am (UTC-8).
  • Available on iOS and Android versions, but not available on Kindle

If you have maxed out stamina and try to watch a video, you get this notification:

Thoughts

Some do speculate if NA server is doing that poorly to really need ads, or another possibility is… maybe a video for box space was actually a good way to engage players, so they added more for engagement? Only GungHo staff would know the answer to this, of course.

Either way, this is awesome for those on NA server needing stamina to farm or improve scores in Ranking Dungeon!

Special thanks to swng and mo for some screenshots!

Okay now gotta run to keep farming Mystics on NA server…

  1. It will be great if the ad-watching feature improves, I had issues in the past with it but it seems better now, I hope it works well now !

  2. Oh man this change might be double edged, play more so you can get burn faster… Instead of improving the game why not enjoy more of the bad designed interface and menus…
The irony of my personal case some days ago when I finished doing the spectres shenanigans I decided to play less, now gungho does this

    1. If you do not feel like playing, you likely will not care about the additional stamina you could get. So I do not think this is a problem. Besides, Gungho NA is more of a delay station than a direct part of the design team, from what we can see. Outside of the two NA exclusive collabs, small changes like this, the PR, and the acquisition of rights rights for non-NA exclusive collabs to make it to NA, it does not seem they have that much of a say in what happens. So I would also not say that this is them ignoring any potential problems.

Out of curiosity, what are the problems that you find with the interface?

  3. Would be nice if it actually works but i cant even get the box space perk to work all so very buggy oohh may i mention that i use Android and not Crapple operating system whats the difference these days it would seem….sigggghhhh 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    1. From my experience with in-app video ads for other games, the problem seems to come from the provider’s end, not the game’s (unless they all implement it in basically the same way that causes similar problems to occur). Since the introduction of the box space one, I have seen the same problem of it not always getting an ad to display that other games have. Sometimes you just have to spam it until it works, although with some other games you just have to walk away. I can say that I have not encountered a problem where ads are not available 90% of the time on IOS that I have observed in other apps. I also would say that both IOS and Android have worked just the same as, if not better than, the in-app ads on Android for other games I have played.

However, it does seem like they changed something on their end with this update. It took a little while longer to load, but all the ones I have done today have worked on the first attempt.

  4. As someone who’s worked for years in the mobile games space, there is a -lot- of supplemental money to be made from rewarded videos, so this could be good for the game. If I were them, I probably would have implemented it differently though, maybe making it available once every 4 hours, and only giving 100 stamina or something like that. Anyway, glad they’re trying new things 🙂

    1. Oh yeah, if you really want to support Gung Ho, actually install a game now and then from one of the ads you see and open it. Each time that happens it can be worth a few bucks to the developer.

    2. Really glad they try something new, I was also expecting 100 stamina… then as you can see from my screenshot, I really overflow my stamina, LOL. Still burning that stamina as we speak!
