Damage Void Piercer, which is usually abbreviated as VDP, is one of the most important awakenings to understand for newer content, as many dungeon bosses feature damage voids that must be dealt with, especially in Arenas .

VDP allows for a card to bypass an enemy’s damage void status when matching exactly a 3×3 orb square of that card’s color. This will allow the card with the VDP awakening to bypass the damage void and will also give that card a personal 2.5x ATK boost. This attack boost can stack with itself as well as other multiplicative damage awakenings such as Enhanced Combos awakenings.

It is worth noting, however, that TPA and L-Unlock awakenings do not mix very well with VDP, because the damage boosts from these two awakenings and the VDP awakening are only added together due to the mutually exclusive activation clauses.

For example, a TPA activates with a match of exactly four linked orbs, whereas a VDP requires a match of exactly nine linked orbs in a 3×3 orb square formation. Let’s say there is a card with one TPA awakening and one VDP awakening. The personal 1.5x ATK multiplier from the TPA applies to the match of the four linked orbs, and the personal 2.5x ATK multiplier from the VDP applies to the match of the nine linked orbs. Then, the damage is added together. The personal damage multipliers cannot multiplicatively stack because it is impossible to activate a TPA and a VDP simultaneously; rather, two different combos are required to trigger the TPA and the VDP.

Now let’s say there is a card with one Enhanced Combos awakening and one VDP awakening. The personal 2x ATK multiplier from the Enhanced Combos applies to all personal damage when matching seven combos. If a VDP formation was part of those seven combos, then the personal damage boosts from the Enhanced Combos and VDP awakenings stack on top of each other for a cumulative 5x ATK multiplier for the VDP combo alone.
