Misc. Mythology

A little overview written by Dragonshadows, for those who would like to learn a bit more about Eris! I have added some PAD icons to help… visualize the story.

Origins

There are two creation myths for

Eris. One of which has her as the daughter of Erebus and Nyx or the daughter of Zeus and Hera.  In all honesty as there was no real cult representations of her in Ancient Greece the origins matter little compared to the most important story from her mythos.

The Golden Apple of Discord

Eris, the Goddess of Strife, was not one to let a slight go unavenged. The Wedding of Peleus and Thetis drew all of Olympus to the gathering, except for Eris who was not invited because of the “mischief” that she caused. Angered by the snub, Eris went to the Garden of the Hesperides and took one of the

Golden Apples. She tossed it into the gathering with the words “to the fairest” inscribed on the apple. Zeus, not wanting to get 3 of the major goddesses pissed off at him (among them his wife Hera and daughter, Athena) found a human that he deemed “fair” to judge who the fairest of them was. Paris, the son of the King of Troy was bought to the banquet and offered by the goddesses for the Apple. Hera promised power, Athena promised wisdom, and Aphrodite promised the love of the fairest woman on the planet (Helen of Troy). Aphrodite won, Paris ran with Helen back to Troy, and a thousand ships were launched, all because Eris was pissed that she was snubbed from a party.

This is the most famous myth associated with the coming descended monster. 

Interesting Notes

Minerva is Roman equivalent of Athena (hence why she is part of this).

Artwork:  She has a look similar to

Ares because she was often associated with Enyo, the Greek Goddess of War. As Enyo was considered an equal/sister/wife of Ares, the artwork makes some sense in that regard.

In some classical representation she has wings which is where they come from in the evolved form.

There are mentions of her having escorted Typhon into battle against Zeus who had Nike (Victory) on his side.
